Job Description

The Assistant Teacher is required to implement Child Center curriculum in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the Great Basin College Child & Family Center, NAEYC, QRIS and NV Pyramid Model Partnership. The position will also require seeking and utilizing resources to enhance center curriculum and daily lesson plans. The Assistant Teacher will supervise between four and six child center Teacher Assistants when the Lead Teacher is absent. The position is located in Elko, Nevada. The position reports to the Great Basin College Child & Family Center Lead Teacher and Director. This is an Administrative faculty, 12 month contract.

Qualifications:

Enrollment in an Early Childhood program and twelve completed Early Childhood credits;
One year of Early Childhood Education classroom experience at a licensed center;
Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills;
Demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem solving skills;
Demonstrated ability to respond and make decisions in an ever changing environment;
Knowledge of NAEYC, Nevada Silver State Stars QRIS, ECERS/ITERS and NV Pyramid Model Partnership.
Applicants must be physically able to perform duties including frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, typing, prolonged standing or sitting

Responsibilities:

Assist the Lead Teacher in instructing a preschool class of 2 to 4-year-old children;
Participate in caring for the children's well-being and safety;
Implement lesson plans, which stimulate the development of age appropriate cognitive and social skills, which include communication, emergent reading, writing, math, science, social studies, creative art, fine and gross motor development;
Implement and teach the Pre-Kindergarten Standards through appropriate activities in the classroom;
Set-up and maintain an age-appropriate, center-based learning environment which meets the requirements of NAEYC Accreditation, as well as the TACSEI TPOT and ECCERS assessments.
Prepare and send home "Homework on Wheels" with each child once a month.
Work a minimum of 40 hours per week under the supervision of the Great Basin College Child and Family Center Lead Teacher and Director.
Model attitudes, behaviors, and techniques which contribute to the overall harmonious operation of the program;
Promote positive public relations with all contacts within and outside of the Child Family Center;
Other duties appropriate to the position as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Director.
Participate in college or center committees as appropriate.
Follow all guidelines as required by the Great Basin College Child and Family Center Staff Handbook, and adhere to all licensing standards as set forth by the Nevada Bureau of Services for Child Care. Follow Great Basin College and Nevada System of Higher Education policies and procedures, and all applicable local, state and federal regulations.

Travel

The position may require driving to other GBC campuses, with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act, with possible overnight stays to coordinate students and programs throughout the service area. There must be a commitment to the GBC mission to serve rural Nevada. The successful candidate will participate in several state-wide or national meetings each year that require overnight travel.

Compensation Grade

Administrative Faculty - A

The budgeted salary range for this position is $28,000 - $32,000

Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment. Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.
