Over the past decade, the School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) has developed an innovative portfolio of high quality pathways into teaching in response to the ever-shifting context of teacher education. Many are grow-your-own pathways aimed at increasing the number of teachers entering the profession, diversifying the teaching workforce, and expanding access across the entire state. These pathways involve extensive clinical experience and require high-touch supports from inquiry to graduation to ensure student success in both matriculating into the program and being successful while in the program in order to graduate. SEHD leaders have been awarded a U.S. Department of Education Hawkins Center of Excellence grant called "Breaking Barriers: Advancing Diversity, Access & Equity in the Teaching Profession" to further support the growth of these pathways and serve as a national spotlight for effective practices in diverse educator preparation.

In support of the Breaking Barriers initiative and to ensure the success of our rapidly growing teacher preparation pathways, this position will be responsible for developing and maintaining systems for communication and tracking processes that support admissions, clinical placements, background checks, partnering with schools and mentor teachers, and will maintain program assessment data across all pathways. This position will also support teacher education leaders to establish and manage the Teacher Preparation Research & Evaluation Collaborative.

Teacher Education Pathways Support Coordinator

What you will do:

Develop and Maintain Systems for Student Success Supports

  • Create and implement a comprehensive plan for communication processes with Breaking Barriers students around admissions, financial aid, wrap-around support systems, and affinity group meetings and experiences in collaboration with grant leadership, admissions, advisors, pathway directors, and Student Success Director

  • Design systems and tools for collecting and tracking grant assessment data, recruitment and admissions data, program information, student progress, and other necessary data for program success.

  • Develop tools and processes to implement support plans for students who may be struggling in the program in collaboration with Director of Student Success

Admissions & Marketing Supports

  • Collaborate with Office of Marketing to design marketing materials for the Breaking Barriers program

  • Collaborate with the Office of Outreach and Recruitment, the Recruitment and Admissions Specialists, and the Office of Admissions to develop and maintain system of high touch support through admissions.

Clinical Experience Supports

  • Collaborate with the Office of Partnerships to design systems to support clinical placements including communicating about and monitoring background checks, supporting the placement process, communicating with mentor teachers and tracking student progress in clinical placements for all Breaking Barriers students

  • Coordinate and manage all specialized pathway admission processes for unique job-embedded pathways such as NxtGEN, and provide support for the senior year professional year admissions process for all Breaking Barriers students.

  • Provide support for coordination of specialized events held for program students and school partners.

Scholarship Tracking & Management

  • Design application process for Breaking Barriers recruitment and retention scholarships in collaboration with teacher education leaders, faculty and staff

  • Design, facilitate and manage all communications to students about scholarship application deadlines and award letters

  • Design and facilitate tracking system for all scholarships including ensuring that students are meeting expectations of satisfactory academic progress to retain scholarship.

Support the Teacher Preparation Research and Evaluation Collaborative

  • Collaborate with teacher education leaders to create agendas, maintain minutes, schedule meetings, and provide follow-up on actionable steps.

  • This position is expected to adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and related training will be provided.
  • This position involves working closely with students where the person may become aware of campus safety issues that may need to be reported as part of CU's commitment to compliance with the Clery Act. The person in this role will receive the related training and be required to submit data once per year to the campus Clery Act team. Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • 2 years of experience in higher education working in various capacities to support the success of diverse, first-generation students

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in teacher education operations

  • Experience with University IT Tools, Systems and Services (CU-SIS, SLATE, CU-Access, EMS, Canvas, and Formstack).

  • Experience with managing projects and event planning.

  • Experience creating forms, collecting, processing and tracking data.

  • Experience and success in working with diverse communities and first-generation college students

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing outstanding customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently and contribute as member of team, develop relationships with wide variety of internal and external constituencies

  • Knowledge of School of Education & Human Development Teacher Education programs, degrees, endorsement, and licenses; undergraduate and graduate admissions process and procedures; Colorado Department of Education licensure/endorsement requirements; University policies and procedures

Conditions of Employment

  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.

  • This position requires an onsite presence on campus in downtown Denver three (3) days a week

  • This position is dependent on continued grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $60,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
